Chachani Climber Reviews

We had an amazing adventure climbing Chachani in one day - thanks so much! Everything was perfectly organised, our guide Jarly was just perfect and we loved it!

The best guide me and my wife have ever encountered for mountain hiking! A true adventure with the amazing guide Karol and the super helpful office representative Marco. We went on a one day hike to Chachani peak, Marco at the office was kind and patient and informative, showed us the route and several other options on Google Earth, and showed us the equipment and gave us a small discount when we asked. He said he's learning English, and we told him his English is already excellent. Once we started the hike with Karol, we quickly realized she has a great understanding of all things hiking and altitude sickness related, and has a great passion for climbing tall mountains which was inspiring. Me and my wife had many difficulties with the altitude and tough Chachani climb, and Karol was super attentive and checked in with us and helped through each step of the way, whether headaches, nausea, dizziness, ears ringing, etc - for each effect she knew exactly how to deal with it, calmly and kindly explained why we are feeling this and how to handle it - deep breaths, water, food, rest, etc. With her guidance we were able to reach our personal maximum height which was beyond what we thought we could reach that day, and she was an amazing guide - not just for the route but also for the entire experience, turning it into a true adventure where we can safely explore out limits and the beautiful mountain of Chachani and surroundings. 10/10 would climb with Karol again. Thank you so much!

I've decided very short-termed to do the climb to the summit of Mount Chachani and requested several agencies approx. 10 days before the start. Peru Adventure Tours replied very fast and from beginning on I had a very personal contact - with a call and honest consulting. Everything was very well organized, in time - and guide / driver / carrier were real nice and had the knowledge I missed for my first climb to 6.000m+ The guide had a great attitude and catered to my needs - other groups didn't make it to the top on the same day. I can really recommend them, they really know what it needs to have the best experience - and in this case to get to the top!

I was keen to get beyond 6000m altitude, so booked a two day trip with my wife to climb Mt Chachani. We set off in bright sunshine, and returned after summiting in a snow storm. Our guide Johan, and his brother were great throughout, ensuring we had plenty to eat and drink, and keeping an eye on our response to the ever-thinning air. They even gave us their sleeping bags when these were forgotten, and stopped off at a chemist to furnish us with re-hydrating fluids due to stomach upset. Although a straightforward ascent, you do need to be fit and determined to get to the top. A competent guide like Johan certainly engenders trust and confidence.

As part of our holiday in Peru we decided we had to climb at least a mountain/volcano. We were discussing whether it should be the Chachani or El Misti. We eventually chose for El Misti as it is a more iconic volcano, has a longer trail to the summit and the fact that it is an active volcano attracted us as well. We came in contact with Saul from Peru Adventours Tours and booked the trip to the summit. The communication went all very smooth. We are quite experienced hikers, but not experienced with these high altitudes (4000+) at all and we were therefore not well prepared. On the first day of the trek, Saul, an excellent driver btw, stressed this out. Luckily he could lend us a decent pair of gloves and for the rest we should hope for nice weather. Our guide, Angel, was a very nice guy and actually a perfect guide. He spoke very well English and explained us a lot about the volcanos and he had a decent answer to all the questions we asked. His pace was perfect for us, as well as the timings for the breaks. What was also funny, is that his time estimations were all remarkably accurate. The food was basic, but functional. Reaching the summit and the crater were both amazing experiences. Also the altitude was funny to experience. Fortunately we did not have headaches or other serious symptoms of altitude sickness, but we were moving like we were hundred years old and were still constantly out of breath. At lower altitude everything went back to normal. Saul picked us up exactly at the agreed time (like the day before), which is not common in Peru we noticed. Overall we had a great time and were very glad that we booked our tour at Peru Adventure Tours, definitely a recommendation when you visit Arequipa.
we took a three-day tour to the Colca Canyon and to the top of Chachani with a personal guide. On the first day at Colca Canyon, we had breakfast at 7 am, finished our trek at 1 pm and then just sat on the road for two hours waiting for the bus! Why it was impossible to arrange a car when the tour cost almost $700 is not clear. They offered to give us a ride for a small fee, but the guide refused and we ended up losing half a day. According to the plan, we had thermal springs, but we ended up in the city only at 16:30, all this time there was no food, not even a snack!!! Of course, tired and burned from sitting on the road for 2 hours, we ran to eat without seeing the city and the springs. The next day the guide said that our bus was at 9, but it turned out that it left on schedule at 8:30 and we again just waited for the bus. Then there was lunch - a piece of dry bread with a thin sausage and a tomato, and that’s it! A Conda car brought us to 5000m; the guide said several times that the car would be waiting for us at this altitude. We climbed to 5200, I immediately felt unwell, but the guide did nothing. He just told me to take painkillers if I have any. At night my boyfriend became ill, we could not go to the top, the guide said that we had to wait for dawn. He calmly returned to the tent and snored until the morning. In the morning we somehow collected our things and went downstairs. It turned out that the car wasn’t waiting for us there and the guide couldn’t pick up his phone; he couldn’t call a car! What if something even more serious happened?! How can you organize a tour like this?! Fortunately, we met another guide, she called a car for us and after waiting another hour, we were finally evacuated. My boyfriend felt very bad, I felt fine. Our dinner was at 6 pm, we didn’t sleep all night, and in the morning too. But when I told the guide in the morning that I was hungry, the only thing he offered me was some nuts. I do not recommend this company for organizing your tours; there are many other worthy operators in Peru. This is unreasonably expensive, but also life-threatening!
