Ama Dablam Expedition Overview

Mount Ama Dablam (6812 m) is one of the beautiful peak located in the Solukhmbu region of Nepal. The literal meaning of Ama Dablam is mother's necklace.

The name comes from the unique shape in which it looks like a mother holding her baby with a chain like a glacier. Hence, considered one of the most elegant peak of the Himalayas.

The peak was first ascended in 1961 through the southwest ridge.

Ama Dablam dominates the eastern sky for all those who trek to the Everest region. Almost every attempt is made from the southwest ridge to the top like the first one made by four climbers, two from New Zealand and 1 from United States and UK.

While this is a minor spike compared to its sky-high neighbors, sometimes even the Everest veterans have issues with the technical issues they face when scaling Ama Dablam.

The journey begins after a flight to Lukla from where you and your team trek for about 5 days to the base camp of Mount Ama Dablam. The most popular route by far is the Southwest Ridge. Climbers typically set up three camps along the ridge with camp 3 positioned just below and to the right of the hanging glacier, the Dablam.

A special climbing permit and a government-appointed liaison officer are the prerequisites for this expedition. As for any endeavor to the Everest region, spring from March to May is the best time but October also offers ideal conditions for climbing this summit.

Besides the climbing experience, the journey is one of the best experiences where you get very close to Mount Everest and from the top of the peak - you can witness three highest peaks of planet earth.
