Climbing Nevado Chopicalqui

Although it is very close to Huascaran, Chopicalqui remains a great classic climb. In fact, it is one of the highest peaks in the Cordillera Blanca after Huascarán.

The first ascent of Chopicalqui was in 1932 by H. Hoerlin, E. Schneider, P. Borchers, E. Hein; the first expedition of the DAV (Deutscher Alpenverein) was carried out in the Cordillera Blanca, led by Philip Borchers (DE). they reached the summit of Chopicalqui, following the SW ridge.

Itinerary


Day 1: Huaraz (3100m) - Llanganuco Valley - Campo Morena (4990m)
Duration: 3 hours (transport), 3 - 4 hours (hiking)

Day 2: Camp Morrena – High Camp (5350m.)
Duration: 4 - 5 hours.

Day 3: High camp (5350m) - Chopicalqui Summit (6354m) - Morena field.
Duration: 12 hours approx.

Day 4: Morena field (4350m) – Llanganuco Valley - Huaraz.
Duration: 5 hours of hiking, 3 hours (transportation)

Day 1: Huaraz - Yungay - Quebrada Llanganuco - Curva de Ancush 4200 masl. - Chopicalqui Base Camp 4400 masl. Transfer in private transport from Huaraz to Yungay, and the curve of Ancush where we begin the trek to the base camp of Chopicalqui, Hike 4 to 5 hours approx.

Day 2: Chopicalqui Base Camp - Chopicalqui Moraine Camp 4900 masl. This day you will have to ascend the entire moraine. On the way you will have a view of the snowy Huascarán, Pisco, Huandoy, Chacraraju, Yanapaccha. 5 to 6 hours approx.

Day 3: Chopicalqui Moraine Field - Field I 5300 masl. This day there will be a walk through about 30 ° degrees of wall approx. Walk 5 to 6 hours approx.

Day 4: Campo I - Chopicalqui Summit 6345 masl. - Camp I This day is a hard walk to the summit. Views of the Huandoy, Pisco, Chacraraju, Yanapaccha, Artesonraju, Quitaraju, among others. Day 9 to 12 hours approx.

Day 5:High camp - Chopicalqui Base Camp 4400 masl. This day will be the descent to the base camp. Walk 6 to 7 hours approx.
